Privacy & analytics choices

Short version: You can use MovingToHere without creating an account or giving us your name, email, telephone number, street address or postcode. During this pilot we collect limited usage events to understand which destinations and features are useful. Netlify, our hosting and form provider, may also process technical information such as IP address and referrer information.

Your pilot analytics choice

We use limited browser storage and interaction events solely to create statistical information about how MovingToHere is used and to improve the service. We do not use this pilot data for targeted advertising or to build profiles of individual visitors.

If you turn analytics off, future MovingToHere pilot events from this browser will not be submitted. A small local preference is kept so the site can remember your choice. We also respect Global Privacy Control where the browser provides it.

What we record

When pilot analytics are on, event submissions can include the origin town/city you choose to enter, destination town/city, selected UK nation, the action taken (for example a guide view, checklist download or official-link click), optional service-interest choices, optional usefulness feedback, the page path, broad device class and campaign/referrer-domain information. We add normalised town keys so spelling/capitalisation variants are easier to aggregate.

Netlify may add or process technical request metadata such as IP address and referring URL as part of hosting, security and form handling. We do not deliberately use IP addresses to identify, profile or target visitors.

Why we use it

The purpose is to understand aggregate demand, improve the checklist and user journey, decide which town guides deserve detailed local research, measure whether official links are useful, and protect the service from abuse. Where this involves personal data, we use it on the basis of legitimate interests in operating, securing and improving this small pilot, balanced by data minimisation, short raw-data retention and the analytics opt-out above.

Browser storage

MovingToHere uses session storage only for short-lived statistical context such as campaign/referrer information and to avoid double-counting the same guide view during one browser session. Under current UK rules, statistical-purpose storage can be used without prior consent where the relevant conditions are met, including clear information and a simple free means of objecting. The control above provides that objection route.

Retention

We keep raw MovingToHere pilot event submissions for up to 30 days for aggregation and basic abuse checking, then delete them. Aggregated statistics that no longer identify a visitor may be kept longer to compare demand over time. Privacy enquiries are kept only as long as needed to answer and handle the request. Netlify may retain its own infrastructure/security records under its terms and policies.

Hosting and international processing

MovingToHere is hosted on Netlify. Netlify acts as a service provider/processor for site content and form submissions and may process information outside the UK, including in the United States. Netlify describes contractual and Data Privacy Framework safeguards for international transfers in its privacy and data-processing documentation.

Third-party links

Official links take you to other websites with their own privacy notices. If commercial or affiliate links are introduced later, they will be clearly labelled before the click. Pilot interaction data will not be shared with advertisers for targeting.

Your rights and questions

You may have rights to ask about, access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing of your personal information, depending on the circumstances. Because the normal pilot does not ask who you are and we do not add a persistent visitor identifier, it may not always be possible to match an event submission to a particular person without additional information.

For a privacy question or request, use this form. Please do not include unnecessary sensitive information.

MovingToHere (movingtohere.co.uk) is responsible for deciding why information collected directly through this pilot is used.
